Three Transit Stops: One Big Idea
A train line suburb like Berwyn has thousands of commuters riding past this community every day. One of Berwyn’s unique characteristics is that it has three passenger rail stations. This provides a huge opportunity to attract visitors from other communities along the BNSF Railway, and to promote the City with a new image as a cool destination and a great place to live. Rebranding, one stop at a time.
The study analyzed and recommended a new direction for land use, design, and circulation, and identified implementation projects and initiatives — including financing opportunities. The areas surrounding the train stations provide an opportunity to create a series of more dynamic mixed-use neighborhoods. Now that the Berwyn Transit-Oriented Development Study has been adopted, the City is moving beyond the study to implementation.
