Riverside TOD & Downtown Plan
Riverside, IL
Redevelopment in a Living Landmark
Riverside, Illinois, a west Chicago suburb, is one of America’s first planned communities designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and is a landmark on the National Historic Register. The project objective was to prepare a precise redevelopment strategy to create a vibrant economic climate for the Village’s central business district in which the train station is the civic centerpiece.
The final plan addressed aesthetics, railscape, managed shared parking for commuters, new dense residential, and commercial/entertainment. The plan needed to call for appropriately-scaled redevelopment for this landmark village. The role of TBS was as a consultant for the village officials while the plan was in development.
